Letter to Metrolinx Board Meeting on December 2, 2021

Remember when you would ride the TTC after taking the GO and you’d get a $1.50 discount? Well, the A Voice for Transit team submitted a letter to Metrolinx’s last board meeting of 2021 asking for the TTC/GO Transit co-fare to be brought back. It was cancelled in 2018. We would like to receive a response from Metrolinx on this issue. Read our letter below.

Hello Mr. Wright & Mr. Verster,

This letter is regarding the board meeting on Dec. 2, 2021 at 12:00PM EST.

As businesses open up in the downtown core and Metrolinx looks to encourage residents to take transit once again, are there considerations being made to reintroduce the co-fare with the TTC?

The co-fare would provide redundancy in the transit system and allow more lower income residents who moved out of the city during the pandemic to commute to necessary jobs in the downtown core. As inflation rises, adding a co-fare option would make a huge difference in commuter’s cost of living. As recent graduates, current students, and young professionals in the city, these cost of living savings have a large impact on long-term wellbeing (student debt repayments, rent, etc.). We would greatly appreciate it if this could be discussed in the upcoming board meeting on December 2nd.

If you would like to discuss this further, please do not hesitate to contact us at voicefortransit@gmail.com.

Thank you,
